How To Grow Tomatoes From Seed
The best way to grow tomatoes from seed is to start in late January. This method is suitable for tomatoes that you want to grow indoors or outdoors.
You need to be able to put the tomato seeds somewhere warm to encourage germination.
Put some potting compost mixed with perlite into a 3" pot, water and then pop 3 tomato seeds around the edge of the pot, cover with some more perlite and then either cover the whole pot with a plastic bag, attached to the pot via an elastic band or, for the best results, place the pot onto an electric warming tray and cover. This way you will keep the temperature even all the time.
Make sure that you either have a greenhouse that is heated to keep away frost or alternatively bring the tomato pots indoors and keep somewhere warm.
Within a week to 10 days you should see the seedlings beginning to appear, once they have 2 true leaves, you can either repot them singly into their own 3" pots, or alternatively remove the weaker seedlings to allow the strongest to grow.
