Need advice about planting tomatoes?
Luna asked:
I've planted cherry type tomatoes in the same place the last two years and had some problems with tomato hornworms. If I use upside down baskets somewhere else in the yard, will I have the same problem?

Also, I want to plant a new vegetable in the place where I've planted the tomatoes. What are some vegetables that won't have problems there? (the only other thing I've grown there that did well were habanero peppers). Thanks!
Also, I live in ZONE 9B

last year I grew a sweet 100 tomato and a okra plant in the same container which was a just styrofoam ice chest. The okra grew fast up like a tree 7 feet tall.
I been wanting to try the upside maters myself. my soil is no good so everything as to be in containers anyway.

Your tomatoes this year will probably do a lot better just because they are not in the same place. Crop rotation is an age old concept that needs to be used in our home gardens and containers as well.
You can plant whatever you want where your tomato was – just don’t put another tomato there for a couple of years. Ideally, not for 4 years.

Garden vegetable planting should always be rotated no matter if it’s in a container or in the yard.
Use the guide below for rotation

Tomato Hornworms are the larva of the Five-Spotted Hawkmoth that will find your tomatoes even if you put them in the tree tops. All you can do is inspect your tomatoes every day and pick the pests that you find. Tomatoes, bell peppers, potatoes and eggplant are all of the same family and are susceptible to the same diseases, so you could plant any thing else you want in the vacant spot without worry.
