When is it time to pick tomatoes?

JT asked:

I have the Cherry and Roma varieties if that matters. This is my first year attempting to grow vegtables.

  1. The Tomato Shop

Most homegrown tomatoes start producing by July. At least in the part of the country where I live. It might be different if you live in a colder climate.

  2. Great Salmon Recipes

you want to wait till they are at peak of ripeness, thats when they have the best taste, unlike that crap they sell at grocery stores which have been picked green or not far from it, and have very little taste.

  3. Tomato Growing Books

Pick them when they are a lime green. This is the best time to fry them. Or you might try pickling. The cherry’s that is.

    God Bless

  4. When they are red,

There is a Green Zebra, green grape and a couple other green ones in the heirloom tomato types,

  5. The Tomato Shop

Pick the tomatoes as soon as they are a shade of red. They should not be squishy or still be green. It is best to pick them as soon as they turn red.
